SUPERNOVA BITTORRENT : Any advice, pointers... maybe a reliable client that would meet the demandsof a Kazaa user?Azureus works a treat, I have no problems with it and generally get betterdownload speeds and doesn't need the uploads throttling. It looks complexbut is piss easy, most of the info it gives is vaguelly interesting once youknow what it's doing but doesn't really matter.Don't listen to the mongs who will probably tell you it's crap.If KAZAA is your cup of tea, well.....I got fed up with Kazaa's spying, their renaming titles, their viruses. AND,the big companies are hitting Kazaa's users, now.I must have downloaded Fight Club at least 4 times under different names. Why don't you try this:Download Shareza. It supports BT's.Next time you go to download a BT, Shareaza will open and give you a niceGrapics User Interface and once you learn to use Shareaza you'll see youdownloads are alot faster.SHAREAZA: SUPERNOVA BITTORRENT : First thing I'll say is this: you're mistaking BitTorrent for a typical P2P, which is why you're running into problems. The way one interacts with BitTorrent is much more like the way one interacts with files served over HTTP.BitTorrent is not designed for the casual browser. If you say to yourself, "Gee, I'd like to download a movie. I wonder what's out there?" BitTorrent is probably your worst choice. BitTorrent is geared toward the "release" of specific files. So, rather than looking for "a movie," you might know that Anime-Empire just released a fansub version of Shingetsutan Tsukihime. You go to A-E's specific bittorrent page and download it. Sites like Supernova just play the role of gathering many torrent files together in one place, but they're not intended to--nor can they--play the role of comprehensive directories like a P2P search function. Supernova is where you go when you know a torrent exists, but can't find the homepage for the group who made the torrent in the first place. SUPERNOVA BITTORRENT : I doubt they exist. There is a program called "TorrentSearch" (or some variant) that claims to index and search torrents on several of the more popular clearinghouse sites, but when I tried it, it didn't work.Like I said, though, BitTorrent's not for browsing or searching. It's for when you already know where the file is available, and just want to get it faster than traditional HTTP or FTP can handle. You can't share an arbitrary file or directory, no. BitTorrent is designed so that the people who released the file in the first place can control how long its available for download. So long as you have the torrent file and the *EXACT* file that was released, you can share it, just by leaving the download window open. If you've closed the window and want to resume sharing, you double-click the torrent again, and tell it to "download" the file to the same place that you did before. The client is smart enough to realize you've already downloaded the whole thing, and just begins uploading. SUPERNOVA BITTORRENT : But unlike traditional P2Ps, you can't just drop a file in a "shared"For taking the time to reply so thoroughly. I'm beginning to get a betterunderstanding of what BitTorrent is.I used Azureus for a while, as well. I liked the abundance of featuresthat it offered--especially queuing. I did have a problem with it, though, relating to the fact that I was downloading from azureus and saving to anetworked drive. If you're going to be saving everything to a local drive, my vote goesfor Azureus. The client that I've fallen back on is Burst! I've had noproblems with it, but it doesn't have as many features. On Thu, 06 Nov 2003 03:25:45 GMT, "Fyvekatz" wrote:Azureus isn't bad. But my current fav is Torrentstorm. Burst wasgood too...Since my first post I tried ABC which has been the most satisfying for me sofar. After reading your posts, I'm running to try Azureus. I was shy to use itbecause I read it's a Java app...I'll tell u what it did for me.
