So yes, I'dskip it.WinMX is designed to follow 2 protocols independently: OpenNap and WPNP(Frontcode's proprietary WinMX Peer Network Protocol). You can use WinMX asan OpenNap client without logging onto WPN, and vice versa - or you canconnect to both systems at the same time. Since 2.6 has no access to anyfiles available on WPN, it's more limited. OpenNap still has a good numberof users (400K+ on a good day, however not all unique) and continues to be agood source.But 400K users isn't really all that much is it, Don? I mean, I think Kazaahas 4 or 5 million on a given day, by comparison, unless I've got my numberswrong. I'veseen PDF's of Ligeti's etudes, complete Stockhausen Licht recordingsas MP3's, Messiaen, Sciarrino, Xenakis, and others.I'm not going to argue about the economic consequences of thisprocess, so folks who might get upset about this, flame away. Gnuetla, and DC won't work for me because Icant leave my computer on for hours in q's, (I download through thewireless in my school).When you seek rare files, there is no best, there is only luckthat you find it, and it took me 2 years to find some rare bandthat wasn`t mainstream and didn`t do great on the hit charts.Yep I wholeheartedly endorse Soulseek, not just for rare files but any musicnowdays. Then again, it depends on who you're looking for. If it's soooorare it might be just pure luck of the draw who has it and who doesn't. Ihave to admire the eclecticism of the Soulseek users though - whole albumsby 60s people like Vanilla Fudge, Tangerine Dream, Soft Machine...1960s Moogmusic from Dick Hyman, Perry-Kingsley, wicked weird stuff I thought I'dnever thought I'd hear.Also I use it to hear the new releases like Metallica St Anger / RadioheadHail To the Thief / Marilyn Manson Golden Age of Grotesque. It's all thereon Soulseek for the grabbing. SOULSEEK MUSIC : Another alternative to use for music (maybe rare stuff) is LimewirePro...and Piolet. The more weapons at your disposal, the wider the catchmentIMO.I do love Soulseek, but I rather wish it was up more than half the time.Tangerine Dream and the Softs are cake to find on Soulseek; I've picked upmore bootlegs of those bands than I can shake a stick at. I've also done welllately finding Schoenberg, a live show by Herbie Hancock Mwandishi with JulianPriester, and a '76 show by John Cale with Patti Smith. Now if only I couldturn up somebody with a complete DEVO live show from '79, I'd be set...I feel your pain! But Soulseek is worth it for the times it is up, yourcollection eventually thanks you for it. When it's down, it's just a matterof putting up with other weapons in your arsenal, like Kazaa / Limewire /Piolet / whatever....I use that time just to find some mainstream pop / rockmusic...we all don't like the diverse stuff 100% ALL the time right?
