SOULSEEK DOWNLOAD : My son gave me his old computer 4 years ago and gave me a few lessons onusing the internet (also installed Word and Excel) but that's about as faras I ever got. Finally a year ago I got a new computer and a scanner.Found out about newsgroups and I lurk/post on no less than 7 and thatoccupies a lot of time :-) so still haven't wanted to learn how to send apicture!I think a great deal depends on what a 'senior' is looking for in acomputer. I regard it as a tool, not as a source ofentertainment...I have friends who enjoy writing programmes, or designing stationaryscanning pictures and so on.....and they try to involve me in theseactivities....but I am just not interested. I have the expertise butnot the desire.The Internet keeps me in touch with distant friends and familymembers, I belong to just a few discussion groups, but these arelighthearted rather than heavy discussions. I am not interested inarguing politics.....I am involved in Family Research and here again the computer proves tobe a valuable tool.....I also have friends who wouldn't thank anybody for a computer, as theyare involved in so many activites outside the home... they are not'afraid' simply not interested. Whatever question pops into my head (andsome strange questions make their way there), I just go to Googleand my questions soon is answered. Recenllydiscovered a file sharing program that is a treasure trove ofclassical music and now I have Bach's Art of the Fugue in its entirelywith my breakfast. Whatever my mood, I have instant music to matchit. SOULSEEK DOWNLOAD : So the computer has greatly enhanced my hobbies of art and music.Most recently I upgraded to an 80 gig hard drive to store all mymusic files.Learning about managing my computer has taken time. There arenewsgroups where you can ask a question about any problem andget good answers. I have spent considerable time learning aboutcomputer health and safety. And run programs to block ads andother annoyances.Then there is Internet shopping -- in many cases faster and easierthan trudging around from one store to another. I still use regular libraries for borrowing books, and I can searchfor books I want to read online, reserve them, be notified by Emailwhen they are available and renew them online.What have I forgotten? From time to time I play around withcreating web pages and slide shows that include music.Oldtimer, my daughter rescues computers and fixes them up andgives them away. Her husband works at a place where computersfrequently are discarded. He brings them home and she takesparts from them and makes some workable machines for friendsand family who do not have one. She is very, very good at hardware.I am good only at software. SOULSEEK DOWNLOAD : I've gone thru Napster, Limewire, and Autogalaxy and can no longer findMP3s on the Web. Where is this treasure trove of classical music? It has a number of very nice features. You can, of course, searchby artist or song title or composer, but if nothing turns upimmediately you can put the terms in a "Wish List" and SS notifiesyou when something is available.Also you can download an entire work, rather than just one song ora piece of a classical selection, because the user files are displayedjust as they appear on the user's hard drive. Each user can setlimits on how many files can be queued at one time. So the firstthing to do is to read the user's information. And you can save thescreen names of those with collections you like and go back to themfor more.If a user goes offline during the download, the download will beresumed when the user returns online. Since many users with extensive file collectionshave a lot of people queued up waiting to download, the donationputs you at the head of the queue. I did donate and find it workswell. I have downloaded many gigabytes of classical music in onemonth -- I had very little classical music and now I have a wonderfulIt really looks good. I wouldn't mind a $5 fee and I do have my own MP3sthat I'm willing to share. But I'd have to upgrade to Mac OS X. I don'twant to do anything that takes time, or makes some of my older softwareobsolete. I can't spare the time these days. Maybe by year-end. Ah, yes, an upgrade is always a headache. Have had to reinstallmy OS a few times -- took me a week of fiddling with the computerto get things working well. I hope that software continues to becreated that will work with my present version of Windows, as I haveno desire to upgrade to newer versions. Horrors!
