BITTORRENT UPLOAD : Inu Yasha is available on BitTorrent, and if they finish TWHE2, I'msure it will be too (still waiting for eps 11-12 of that). No, BitTorrent isn't a P2P program, it's a direct file sharingprogram. You only share what you are downloading or have a torrentopen for. Otherwise, you don't share anything, and it's virtuallyimpossible to do so.Other advantage is, no one is seeing that you are online with a torrent evenif they are downloading that same torrent.--Robert van der Veeke(Remove the pin to Email)Currently listening to: .hack//sign - OST1"Clear the area! For popular releases like Kiddy Grade it is easier to finda high speed IRC server than to watch BT suck up 12kBps upsteam whileyou only get 1kBps downstream. I have had shows finish downloadingwithin 2 hours, and shows never complete downloading after leaving italone for 10 hours. To me BT is usually the last resort.

BITTORRENT UPLOAD : The main advantage of BT is that you can get new stuff without having to wait in endless queues behind people getting 2.5KBytes/sec downloads of 150+ meg files. What is your upstream bandwidth cap? If you're hitting it, then you may be experiencing a problem where ACKs get dropped on the way up. This can severly degrade your performance. The more connections you have going, the worse it gets, so it's best not to open more than two or three active torrents at a time. There's only two ways to fix it. Either get upload rate limiting in your P2P software (WinMX can do this, but BitTorrent doesn't) to about 85% of your cap, or get some kind of firewall that prioritizes ACKs (nowhere as easy as it sounds, since you pretty much have to be using a properly configured Linux box as a router). This is the number one problem with BitTorrent. It badly needs a way to control the aggregate bandwidth.

BITTORRENT UPLOAD : But then that brings up another problem. If you're behind a firewall where people can't make inbound connections to you, you are likely to get real crappy download speeds, because then you can't communicate with other users who are also behind a firewall, and your "karma" with the tracker is never high enough to get assigned much bandwidth.I've got a 384K upload cap, and I use it on a computer with a real IP address, so BT isn't usually a problem. And watch those trackers. If there's one "seed" and lots of downloaders, you're probably going to get hit harder. The other day I saw one where _every_ person connected had a complete file. And sometimes if I see a series I like that has no seeds and two or three downloaders, I'll start an upload of it.Same here. I seem to have become a primary seed for Magical Fairy Persia. ;-}One cool thing, as I understand it, is that once you've uploaded a packet to another downloader, that person in turn will upload it to others, dropping the demand for that packet from you by half. Then when both you and downloader A have sent the packet to downloaders B and C, all four of you will be able to upload it to others -- and so forth. So although you might get hit hard for a while after you connect to seed a file for people waiting, in time it tapers off somewhat, if the number of downloaders stays roughly the same.

BITTORRENT UPLOAD : ...and they told two friends, who told two friends, who told two more friends... (now I'm showing my age) There are also interesting effects if you have BT running on more than one real IP address connected to each other via Ethernet, and there are no more than ten or so downloaders. (Too many downloaders means you aren't likely to get those two assigned to each other very often.)I'm trying it out for the first time with Inuyasha episode 102. SinceI'm away from home for 14 hours, from what I've read, people should beable to get the file from me that whole time (correct me if I'mwrong). Anyway, as others said, this is a great way to get newreleases. From what I saw, I averaged a faster d/l speed than upload(about 45KB/s d/o to 35KB/s upload). So now I will have this to watchthis weekend! YES! :-D It's one of the better methods I know of for getting the latest fansubs. The main downside (to me, at least) is that it gives itself very highpriority on my system. Any transfers over IRC risk being dropped due togoing too slowly (especially when I forget to lower the minimal transferrate), my system overall runs slower, and sometimes it errors when sendingor receiving messages/e-mail. But I can see quickly what the latestreleases are, and get them within seconds. And if something happens beforethe transfer has completed, it can be resumed. Getting the older titles andepisodes takes a bit more luck though. is a great place to start with it.

BITTORRENT UPLOAD : I started to try to use the bittorrent download. Firstly, the help areincompetent. There is no bittorrent rpm and when you download one, youfind it depends on things which there are no Mandrake rpms for in 9.1,except maybe on the contrib site, which at least on my favourite mirror, is empty. Then when I finally after an hour had bittorrentinstalled and started downloading-- it told me the download would onelytake 857 hours. Finally the rate went all the way up to 10K/sec and itpromply started uploading stuff as well as downloading stuff. What thehell is going on here. I want to download Mandrake, I do NOT want ituploading anything from my system. This seems like a complete piece ofgarbage to me. If this is Mandrake being helpful, I wish they wouldquit, and be unhelpful (and simply put the three CDs onto some site). Note that in the bittorrent litereature it warns you that bittorrent ispeer to peer and if you use it to download stuff, stuff on your systemcan be uploaded as well. That is stupid.
