BITTORRENT PORTS : I've been trying to get BitTorrent-3.3 to work through my LinksysBESFR11. It will run for a few minutes and then the router hangs.Although the lights keep blinking, the bits stop flowing. I can'tbrowse to the internet or to the router management port. The only fixseems to be to power-cycle the router. The problem exists withBitTorrent on Linux or Windoze.I removed the router from the network and it works great. Anyone elseseen this? Any experiece with BitTorrent and other routers?AlanCheck firmware date, get latest from Linksys site and install.I got constant "server connection closed" messages when trying to postto Usenet from Free Agent through BESFR11 router. Thought problem wasISP, but updating router firmware solved it.Thanks. I found out that if the router hangs while running Bittorrent, and I reset it while leaving Bittorrent running, Bittorrent willresume and the router won't hang again until I start a new Bittorentsession. BITTORRENT PORTS : I have a BitTorrent server on the inside network and have coded thefollowing rdr to expose ports 6881-6889:This works as it is supposed to, but I wonder if I should also execute:when pf comes up? netstat doesn't show any listeners at ports6881-6889, so I wonder what mechanism is encumbering those ports (ifany)? From: ()Subject: Re: rdr ports imply baddynamic? Since you're supposed to know what services you run on your firewall (if any at all), that's not a matter of guessing or chance. For instance, ftpd will not listen on that port range for passive mode data connections, unless you change the defaults. BITTORRENT PORTS : Hello, I am trying to use bittorrent to download RH 9.But I see that it needs to share the downloaded filesfrom my computer.I have ipchains and iptables running -- which arefirewalls right? Firewalls prevent me from sharing these files right?I heard that if we dont share we wont get it fast either. So is there away I can use both bittorrent and my firewalls OR safely turn off myfirewalls. Also do I have to be root to share these files ? I dont knowmuch about these things so please help me. ThankyouYou need to allow connections from outside to one of the BitTorrentports.Use whatever tool you are using to configure your FW setup, andopen your box for incoming connections on that port.Off the top of my head, I don't know the port number - but it's inthe BitTorrent docu. The connections will come from any outsidehost, originating on a port above 1024, and got to the BitTorrentport. The security implications of opening this port are, in my eyes, nextto nonexistent: for the time BitTorrent is running, you have a verysmall chance of exposing yourself to holes in BitTorrent itself - butsince BitTorrent isn't run as root, the potential worst case scena-rio would be compromising your account on the machine. This chance is*very* small, since BT is only run for a limited amount of time, soa potential exploiter would have to correctly guess that your IPis running BT during a certain time window. BITTORRENT PORTS : On a related note, does anyone have a set of instructions for this devicethat are in _real_ English, rather than the half arsed incomprehensibleones that came with it? I'd like to think I know a reasonable amountabout routing, but it's next to impossible to figure out what the variousoptions of this device actually do.If its the same as the origo you will need to do a power down /upafter saving/rebooting, to check it use tocheck its working. I had a similar trouble till I did the above.Having done the setup, I got the port forwarding to work via the Virtual Server page of the config. The only thing I need port forwarding for is so that DCC will work on IRC. And it does, after I put the correct ports onto the Virtual Server page. Here is my guess, (but I'd appreciate confirmation before I destroy my connection!).ID Public Port Private Port Port Type Host IP Address 1 6881 6881 TCP 10.0.0.82 6882 6882 TCP 10.0.0.8etc. BITTORRENT PORTS : Dunno what you are trying to do, but it is probably right. Justremember that you have to save the changes which reboots the router sothey take effect. To satisfy your curiosity (spelling??), I've started using BitTorrent and port forwarding has been recommended if you're behind a router.I'll wait until the curent downloads are completed before I try it.To: JocelynDoes the above look about right to you (in order to pert forward)?Let me know if it makes any difference. I use BT behind NAT withoutport forwarding and it seems to be working just fine.ID Public Port Private Port Port Type Host IP Address 1 32768 32768 TCP 10.0.0.14(Apparently 10.0.0.14 is the "public WAN IP address" of my airport (wireless) base station. I put that in the VS settings because I was told to. The only link I can see with any other part of the router config is on the LAN config page, where it says IP address (of the router, I think) = 10.0.0.2, DHCP server is ON (contrary to what that website says), DHCP address pool selection = user defined, start address = 10.0.0.3, end address = 10.0.0.14)
