BITTORRENT GAMES : The lowest score you can give a game is 1. But you do not have to play a game for the full two hours if you do not think it is worth the time.Give it a 1. The two hours is a maximum, you do not have to spend that amountof time on every one.In article ,Jeffrey Zahn wrote:There are those, unfortunately. You don't have to play for two hours. When I decide I want arefund on the time I already spent playing an entry, I stop playingit right then and give it a 1. If I don't actively wish I hadnot played that game, I give it at least a 2.Of course, that's only how I do it. The rules say you have toassign a rating from 1 to 10, or not rate it. Rate them as youfeel they deserve.--David H. Thornley | If you want my opinion, ask. | If you don't, flee. | O-In absolute terms, though, 30 games is a lot of output and a very respectableshowing.I intend to wait and see whether we have fewer games than last year,or fewer *poor* games than last year. Ask me again in six weeks.

BITTORRENT GAMES : "And Aholibamah bare Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah: these were the borogoves..."** Make your vote count. Get your vote counted.Went to alt.bittorrent to see what it was. Looks like a bunch of kidstrading video games and TV shows in ways the original copyrightholders probably don't appreciate. It's a file sharing program, yes. And I don't doubt that some stuff getsdistributed on it that shouldn't. But if all the game authors for thecomp have agreed to let their games be distributed, what's the differencebetween downloading it from someone's ftp/web site or getting it fromanother person who's already downloaded it to their computer? You know, file sharing programs aren't inherently bad just because many people douse them for illegal practices. I don't see any problem with using ithere for distrubuting games that the authors want distributed.Does that mean that http isn't used by this bunch of kids to trade videogames and TV shows in ways the original copyright holders probably don'tappreciate? I don't think so.

BITTORRENT GAMES : And if the organizer explains that he would appreciate it if you useBitTorrent since it removes the load from the Archive and its mirror, it'sonly fair to do it this way. Downloading the large zip was a matter ofseconds with it.(I'm afraid this is a very long message. I hope you don't mind.)Unfortunately Stephen failed to provide a proper explanation forwhat BitTorrent is, and neither the mammoth FAQ he linked to, norit seems the alt.bittorrent newsgroup you went to, are good waysto get acquainted.BitTorrent is simply a peer-to-peer technology that helps preventor a least relieve a problem that has plagued the Internet sincethe beginning: flash crowds, such as the thousands of users whosuddenly go to a site because it was linked from a popularweblog, or the tens of thousands of gamers who suddenly start todownload that latest demo for a long awaited megaproduction, orthe hundreds of thousands of people who suddenly start todownload the trailer for the last Lord of the Rings movie, or ofcourse, the hundreds of IF fans who suddenly go to ifcomp.org todownload the latest IFComp games.

BITTORRENT GAMES : While movie studios may have pockets deep enough to pay for thegigantic amount of bandwith necessary to sustain such crowds, most other operations--small companies, non-profit organizationsor individuals--do not. When they get flooded, their web sitesslow down to a crawl, or are simply shut down because theirmonthly bandwidth allocation has been exceeded... by far. This iswhere BitTorrent comes into play: it helps distributors of bigfiles to deal with the flash crowd problem. How does it work? It's very simple. All Internet connections cansend and receive data, but when you surf, you usually downloadmuch more data than you send. This is especially true when youdownload a big file: oftentimes, you go away from the PC, or atleast stop surfing while the download is in progress; during thattime, you send almost no data. This is what BitTorrent uses tohelp distributing files: With BitTorrent, while you download a file, you also send the parts you already have to other users who need them.

BITTORRENT GAMES : Hello everyone. It's been a while since you've heard from me. My life has been a bit unstable lately with relocating to the east coast and all. Now that things have settled down, I wanted to continue making a contribution to the scene as I have in the past. I no longer have access to the phat high speed connection that I used to (remember my FTP?). However, I do have DSL at home so I figured I could start there. My first question is, what would be the best way to "serve it up?" What do you guys think would be the best option? Direct FTP, BitTorrent, Fserve via #mame, NG fills per request, or Kazaa-Lite (grimmace). My upload speed is ~15k which isn't much but hey, it's something right? If you know of another method please feel free to suggest it. Thanks.I like the BitTorrent method. Especially if you have a small pipe, once it gets seeded by a few others, the speeds will improve dramatically for everyone else. However, the logistics of file grouping will have to be worked out.
