BITTORRENT EXPERIMENTAL CLIENT : One question that I'm sure is going to come up a bit is "How do I usethese torrents?" (Save them someplace, double-click and let Windowshandle it from there. Or associate them with your client in yournewsreader's configuration and just launch them -- can do this inAgent, not sure about others.)Recently, I tried to get an html document from SuprNova that was namedwrong, *.html.torrent. Clicking on it opened the torrent file in mybrowser. I copied it to my desktop, renamed it to *_html.torrent andTHEN double-clicked. Maybe an attachment naming rule explaining thisoddity so it can be avoided.Maybe the most frequently asked trouble-shooting questions in theofficial bit-torrent FAQ should be duplicated in the a.b.torrents FAQ,just to save people some jumping around... for instance, the mostlikely reason people can't connect to a tracker (blocked ports). There will be some people who will stumble into the bit-torrentuniverse for the first time through the news-group. An awareness ofthis fact while writing the FAQ will help smooth their experience.

BITTORRENT EXPERIMENTAL CLIENT : Here's a pointer to the most helpful multi-media FAQ out there (IMHO),that I think should be included: thealt.binaries.multimedia.erotica FAQ! ;-)I implemented most of your suggestions, on the most common BT errorsI was looking to just put the "Five Most Common Errors" any idea what those are? Also are there any more suggestions for the FAQ?======================================== ======================={Basic FAQ for alt.binaries.torrents}the FAQ shold say don't just download the rar and par files and then torrentit.Firstly PAR files have no use as BT does hash checking, secondly wrappingin RARwill not reduce the size and more seriously means people unRAR toavi/bin/iso whateverand delete the RAR's, meaning they cannot seed or upload to anyone unlessthey keep both the compressedand uncompressed versions so exactly double the space.bittorrent should only include the finished product, no rar, zip, gz etc.Movies , Tv shows, gamesand music currently being torrented will NOT benefit from compressionalgorithms and will NOTbenefit from parity files.

BITTORRENT EXPERIMENTAL CLIENT : Currently downloading for the first time using bittorrent and have a couplequestions:I am receiving at about 5k and sending at about 14k. Why the asymmetry andwhy so slow on a 1.5M DSL line?Everything else is *really* slow. Browser, email and even local non-onlinestuff. Can this be improved? The reasion why is simple you get the data from all those who are bothseeding and leeching but the amount you get is based on the upload bandwidththat comes from these people so even though people have the ability todownload fast most dont have very fast upload so all the upload bandiwidthis shared between all those who are leeching, the more people who leavethere connection live when they have got the file they want the morebandwidth is given to those still in the queue this is why it is best toleave your connection live when it is done to help others out

BITTORRENT EXPERIMENTAL CLIENT : Do you know why it radically slows down everything else that the computer isdoing? Any way to help this? You're upload rate must be maxing out your own connection, so your other programs have no bandwidth to work in. Even when they're downloading, they must still acknowledge receiving the data with small packets of uploaded data. If bittorrent fills the upstead pipe, its like your other programs can't get a word in edgewise. Install the experimental client (just Google "bittorrent experimental client"), and throttle your upstream to maybe 80% of capacity.Do you know why it radically slows down everything else that the computer isdoing? Any way to help this?If you mean browsing and things related to traffic well remember that youare connected to many other users not just one or two on most BT sessionswhich often causes the upload bandwidth to become flooded, try using burstat: which allows you to set the uploadbandwidth as well as peering with other people getting the file.

BITTORRENT EXPERIMENTAL CLIENT : Can you be connected 24/7 downloading torrents, I keep getting cut offduring the night when im in the land of nod waking up to incompletetorrents.Speeds vary, and if you`re cut off (let me guess, USB modem) you`ll probably have to reboot...Just reopen the torrent - it`s got full CRC checking built in, and will find the bits of file you`re missing and re-download them.I`m now behind a router, and don`t even notice when my line drops most of the time, as it reconnects quite quickly - bittorrent simply carries on where it left off, because it re-contacts the tracker, and the IP address becomes a little irrelevant. Thanks, Yes its USB.I understand what you mean and thanks for the advice ona router, But I was really wondering if Pipex are cutting me off purposly.I don`t think so - i`m with Pipex, and keep the same "dynamic" IP address for days at a time, whereas I was rebooting several times a day with the USB modem. I tend to have a couple of torrents running at any one time.
