BITTORENT DOWNLOADS : Bittorrent is the best overall if used the way it's supposed to. I don'texpect people to leave their downloads or most of them on their hard driveforever but if they would share as long as it is there that's a good thing.( Except for downloads that are a bunch of split archives. I think mostpeople will join the archive to extract their file and once they have it aregoing to delete the split archives, then others can't download it. There'sno point to this. Sometimes even movies are split up. And it's not a realgood idea to compress DivX avis in the first place )My second choice is eMule which was my first choice before. Or maybe it'sequal to Bittorent, but if I can get in on Bittorrent I try that first andif I can't I'll try eMule ) Kazaa only for the files everyone wants ingeneral, and since I go for rare files Kazaa doesn't get used much, exceptfor getting mp3s, which I almost never care about, like the usual Photoshop,MS Office popular type stuff. Other than that it's a dead end with Kazaa.eMule is much better than Kazaa for finding rare stuff though. I think I'llalways have it even though I'll stick with Bittorent too. I always sharedGIGs of files on Kazaa yet I could never get anything. Kazaa is justbecoming worthless. eMule is still great I think ( I say eMule but I meanall Jackasses and company ). Sometimes I'll get a file as fast withBittorent but other times I can't finish a download. I tried and only after8 months did I finish a just under 700MB avi movie on eMule. Fortunately Iwasn't the only one who wanted it and there were tons of comments askingsomeone to share the whole file, and someone did thankfully. The same couldhappen with Bittorent in general, but I've never really experienced it otherthan one file in particular that took 3 weeks. Though generally having someunderstanding of how it works I know when to forget it as with the others Idon't. ( Although I'm stubborn with a particular set of a certain JapaneseTV Series torrents and I vainly have them open all the time, and it's alwaysthe same. Me and some other poor sap and we've swapped all we can fromeachother ) BITTORENT DOWNLOADS : Aside from what I said initially I do sometimes get very fast speeds fromBittorent. I've found that setting it to Dial-Up increases my speedsdramatically and depending on seeders and peers of course, my downloads canrange anywhere from 1K, if there's practically no one to connect to or Ihave nothing to share yet BUT up to and passing 300K and sometimes for briefamounts of time WELL above that with certain files. Which I would never getset at Cable setting. Which is what I dont get -> even though on thatsetting uploads are set to max at 3K I often send more than that. Close towhat I did on Cable Slow/Fast.Still, although not quite getting how that works, and it's weird to mebecause I'm still uploading as much as before but downloading alot quicker,that's what I do. And I felt bad for a while but not now. Because I'm stilluploading comparatively the same but I'm getting many files way quicker, andbecause of that I know that for myself that when I'm done having downloadedit quickly I am definately going to make up for it and Seed or Super-Seedthat file for prolonged periods of time until I've at least uploaded what Idownloaded starting from when I become a Seeder not what I uploaded until Igot the file. I start over. But so far i've always doubled and tripled theupload on the file size. I set it to Unlimited and leave it on as long as Ihave to. Again, it doesn't bother me because what do I care when I'msleeping, or away or not doing anything on the computer or need thebandwidth. Upload speeds are way better than before for others when I setUnlimited ( I've seen from 15K to 40K+ ) and don't download and I can stillhave another client window open downloading a new file, which I will leaveat slow downloads until I've felt I've uploaded the previous file enough. BITTORENT DOWNLOADS : I don't know if this will be frowned upon but for myself, in my case, I findthat because I trust myself that I will share the file, I'm actually doingbetter this way. Not only from getting the file quicker for myself but alsogetting it so that I will become someone to give that file in its entiretyto a few others who I hope will share it for a while and keep it active,rather than wait for a very long time only to not finish the file because bythen Seeders have left and the remaining peers don't all have the completefile between them, or decide to scram after they get it. I'll have it so Iwill continue to share it for sometime afterwards.Sorry for the long ass message. I got motivated when I read of the personwho wanted to cut people off and those who brought up the fact that many DSLand Cable users have crap uploads. Yes we do. I can't help it if even whenI'm set to Unlimited while trying to download that I'm only sending 2K ( forexample ) to people. But I make up for it after. BITTORENT DOWNLOADS : I have learned that the difficulties lie with hardware problems andnot Cookies and good God Sparky, Ok your way isnt ther best and youmight spit but please get over it and yourself....Sorry but I am fed up of hearing of the troubles with his antiquatedmethods even though bittorent is slow all they need is support....Why in the world are you coming down on Sparky? His method obviously worksfor a lot of people and he is really quite generous in spending his timemaking these files available. I've never seen him cop an attitude so whyshould he "get over himself".I'm one of those people that can't get sparky's files to work on mycomputer, but I still appreciate all of the hard work that he has put intothis project.Hmm. Takes me less than an hour to dl and seconds to convert an ep and Ihave medium speed dsl. No troubles that can't be easily solved with alittle technical guidance and a complete archiving binary newsserver. BITTORENT DOWNLOADS : Solid as a rock too. Give me 'antiquated' that works over modern butsporadic any day.yeah it took quite a bit of work to get things stabilized, find the right newsfeed and get it going but it now takes me no time at all,thanks to some perl, cron and the other tools I posted a long postabout the the other day, the episodes download and extract themselves. Every few days I get an email requesting I go put a new VCD in the machine because episodes are ready to go. And I learned a LOT aboutdigital video in the process. It seems to me that easynews (which I don't use) does a whole bunchof this for you, reads the parts and extracts them into binary filesready for download. It seems that might be a good solution for somepeople who don't want to mess with the individual news messages. I think bittorrent, kazaa etc are very good at sharing files with alarge userbase, the larger the file, the larger the userbase seemsto need to be to get good results. At least that has been my observation to date, it would probably work for EE mpgs but only,I think, if it's organized for success. If, perhaps, you had a coreof 10 people, perhaps on the East Coast, you tell them first when the next episode is up and they become the first leaves, leaving their machines up overnight. A couple of hours later you tell otherpeople and they join in, leaving their machines up too to speed theprocess. 24 hours later, that episode is finished and you move on. I started with the east coast so people could go to bed and leavetheir machines on because bittorrent does beat hell out of your, usually limited, upload capacity and that tends to rather limitthe use of the line for anything else.
