ANIME BITTORRENT : I think that's your problem. WinME is a broken OS. It's faulty fromend to end and is the worst OS that Microsoft ever released, bar none.IMHO, Win2K sucks the least of all versions of Windows so far.I won't even touch XP because of the "activation" crap, and who knows what else kind of spyware Microsoft has buried in it. Then again, three of my computers run OS X (and one of _those_ is running WinMX under Win2K in an emulator) so you can see where my bias is. ^_^If Galen Musbach had a hammer, they might havebuilt a post that went like this:BitTorrent isn't as hard on my system resources as, say, WinMX is, butfor some weird reason if I've got more than one torrent at a timegoing my computer is prone to spontaneous rebooting. I imagine thatthis is a fun quirk of WinME also.Spontaneous reboots can also be a sign of bad (or at least badly inserted) RAM. Try taking your computer apart, removing the RAM, carefully polishing the contacts with a pencil eraser, carefully brushing the dust away (DON'T blow on it, or you'll get saliva on it, which would be bad), then carefully and firmly re-inserting the RAM. ANIME BITTORRENT : "Just Another Victim of the Ambient Morality" wrotein message...Those Bit Torrent files are on the forums but they cost a lifetime fee of $9.95to get in.PPGWorld.com - (fun for Powerpuff fans)Omnimation - (for fans of twisted humor, here'smy comic!) It's free, as in speech, not as in beer. The only reason I mention this is 'cause you say "free and open." I canonly assume that "open" means free (as in freedom) so you might be thinkingthat the internet is free (or being redundant). It is not free, we all payfor it with real dollars (or, at least, someone is). You're question is a little funny, probably because you don't fullyunderstand what's going. Not that I know anything but I think you areactually in the minority of seasoned leechers in this regard. BitTorrent must have a static server (fansub website), yes. Otherwise, how can you participate in the network? You need to know where, at least, one person (who is already a part of the network) is. They can then tellyou who else is on and away you go. Believe it or not, most people (thecreators of BitTorrent, mainly) would consider this a _feature,_ not alimitation. This is what BitTorrent is for, the distribution of a_particular_ file to those who want it. If you want to distribute an arbitrary set of files to those who mightwant it, you would use any one of the P2P networks out there. Fasttracker(Kazaa, Grokster), Gnutella (BearShare, Morpheus, Shareaza), or WinMX arewhat you're looking for with your last question (in case you're wondering, Iwas giving a list of P2P protocols and _some_ of their correspondingclients). ANIME BITTORRENT : "Just Another Victim of the Ambient Morality" wrotein message... Umm, the crap that I wrote before this post is exactly that... Crap! I did _not_ intend to send it. It was a mistake born out of myignorance of how to use Outlook Express. I was in the middle of rewritingit (so that it would make sense and be much more amicable) when Outlook justdecided that enough was enough and sent it anyway. Please, oh dear Godplease, ignore it!"Just Another Victim of the Ambient Morality" wrote:I've got WinMX, but it seems so slow. If a 5 megmusic file takes forever to download at times (notcounting the waiting time in line), I can imaginehow long a 100+ meg multimedia file must take...if the provider doesn't log off before the downloadis complete. That's the one advantage BitTorrentwas pimping about their program (and the downloaddid seem to go relatively quickly... about as fast asSupernews, but much slower than Newsfeeds). ANIME BITTORRENT : BTW, finally logged off the Asagiri ep. I did checkto see that there were two other "seeds" before Idid so, becuase I'd hate to be the only one thereand cut someone else off like that. And the best part is that _you_ get to decide what you like enough to make sure someone else can get the whole file. It doesn't share anything except what you have a window open for.The .torrent file has the info on which tracker is tracking it. If you want to share something, you have to have a tracker for it, and you have to have some way to publicize it.This thing is a perfect match for new release fansubs, since there are groups who can keep all their stuff referenced from the same tracker page, and it gets the new stuff out as fast as possible. It sucks for juarez and licensed anime, because you have to have a tracker, which implies responsiblity, which means They can have your ass. Fine with me. ANIME BITTORRENT : It's also bad for older anime, because there has to be sufficient demand that there will be at least four or five people downloading the file at the same time, and at least one with the complete file to seed it.I've gone out of my way to check the web pages of series that I like and seed files when I see half a dozen downloaders but no seed. (Note: the term 'seed' may be specific to the anime bittorrent community... I've seen it called 'uploader' elsewhere.)Did you read the FAQ? ;-)Don't worry, somebody'll explain in laymen's terms, hopefully.I think you only upload stuff from the same filethat your downloading, so you only UL whenever you DL.When you're not DLing anything, you're not ULing neither.IIRC, not like Napster, where whatever is in your sharefolderanyone in the network can see and DL.If you want to contribute, just DL/open a completed file you havethru the BitTorrent URL link (just DL in the same folderthat you have the file in, and make sure the file names match),so even though it's not DL anything (since it's already complete),you're still UL from your completed file to other incomplete users.
